Need proof? It's in the pudding.
Some would argue that the Yorkshire pudding is the best part of a roast dinner, and as it turns out, this Surry Hills pub agrees.
The Forrester’s is fast becoming known as the Home of the Big Yorkie thanks to its giant Yorkshire pudding, which is a meal and bowl in one.
The dish was created by Applejack Hospitality’s Head of Culinary Patrick Friesen (formerly Merivale and Howard Smith Wharves), who was inspired by a dish his friend discovered in Scotland.
“I have always loved the Yorkshire puddings as a rule but to me it always feels like there’s never enough pudding to soak up the gravy. This was kind of the perfect solution to that,” Friesen said.
Not just available for Sunday lunch, the Big Yorkie is on the menu every day, filled with the roast of the week (be it pork, chicken, beef or lamb), crispy spuds, peas and carrots, drowned in a delicious housemade gravy. It’s the roast with the most.
So, how good is the pud? Even a British ex-pat would be impressed. The golden bowl is crispy on the outside and spongey in the centre. Diners are encouraged to tear off the edges and dunk them into the gravy-smothered roast.
The Big Yorkie is priced at $32 from Forrester’s. For more information or to book, head to forresters.com.au.
