Celebrate International Women's Day with Saint Peter, Nomad, Bloodwood and co.

International Women’s Day is back on March 8 and in celebration of the ladies in food really making their mark, there’s a special event coming to Sydney. The Autumn Cookout is a collaboration between PorkStar and not-for-profit organisation Women in Hospitality, and is a celebration of all things pig, from a female perspective.

Taking place on March 18 at Porteno Events in Surry Hills, the event will bring together the industry’s most revered female foodie talent. There will be female chefs, butchers, farmers, brewers and even distillers thrown together in an event that hopes to “showcase the versatility of pork under a woman’s touch.”

As to what exactly can be expected on the food front, there will be a medieval barbecue manned by Alex Herbert from Bird Cow Fish and Bloodwood’s Claire Van Vuuren. Alanna Sapwell of Saint Peter will be taking to pork-themed desserts, and Chrissy Flanagan of The Sausage Factory will be serving up her artisan pork sausages. Julianne Lever of Julianne’s Kitchen has promised a serving of her pate, and Nomad’s Jacqui Challinor a charcuterie station.

Drinks, of course, will also be in attendance, provided by Philter’s Sam Fuss and Nip of Courage’s Kathleen Davies. Embracing the theme of the evening, the duo will be presenting a selection of beverages produced by female brewers and distillers. To round out the entertainment offerings will be a rockabilly band, and a female butcher demonstrating how to break down a pig properly.

Tickets are available online, at $25 for WOHO members and $35 for non-members, including access to the event and all food and beverages.
