All signs point to an XO-coated yes.
Hong Kong import Golden Century Seafood Restaurant has become firmly entrenched in the Sydney dining scene, particularly with hospitality crew. In fact, the Chinese restaurant relocated by owners Eric and Linda Wong will hit its 30th birthday next year, thanks in part to a fanbase devoted to the venue’s live pippies with XO sauce.
The milestone will also signal the start of extension of the Golden Century empire, with rumours rife that a second eatery is in the works. This won’t be a Golden Century 3.0 (following a second eatery at The Star) but rather a new concept for the group led by son Billy Wong.

The new Asian eatery will arise in mid-2019 in The Darling Exchange in Darling Square. Not yet complete, the promised building is a light-filled ‘hive’ designed by renowned Japanese architect Kengo Kuma. Within which the 180-seater is expected, a restaurant focused on Cantonese cuisine and targeting a younger demographic than older sibling Golden Century.
Only time will tell whether a new incarnate will be as popular as the original venue, or (more importantly for some), whether those beloved pippies will make their way onto the menu.
