We've crunched the numbers and it does not look good.
You can take our lettuce and broccoli away, but keep your hands off our hot chips!
Farmers have warned that the cost of living crisis is about to hit potatoes, with the humble spud expected to spike by 30% in the coming weeks.
The new increases are being blamed on rising fuel prices and production costs.
Potato grower Tony Cummaudo said consumers could soon be paying 30% more for the winter staple.
“The cost of production has gone up, between fertiliser, wages, machinery – everything has gone up through the roof,” Mr Cummaudo said.
“The high cost of living is affecting everybody – this has caused a flow-on effect for farmers.”
It is anticipated that a 4kg bag of brushed potatoes will rise to around $12 at major supermarkets over the next few months.
This would inevitably impact the price of takeaway hot chips, which could end up costing around $10-$15 a serve.
