Nobody does (vegan) chicken like KFC.
Vegans will soon be able to kick back with a big greasy bucket of KFC, with the US fast-food chain confirming it has entered into a partnership with plant-based protein supplier, Beyond Meats.
The new menu item, called Beyond Fried Chicken, will hit the menu as nuggets and boneless wings, coated in the colonial’s 11 secret herbs and spices, of course.
The first venue to get the goods will be SunTrust Park KFC in Atlanta, USA, which will sell the Beyond Fried Chicken for a test period only. If the trial goes well, KFC will consider rolling it out to other states in the US, and possibly further afield.
“KFC Beyond Fried Chicken is so delicious, our customers will find it difficult to tell that it’s plant-based,” said Kevin Hochman, president and chief concept officer, KFC U.S. “I think we’ve all heard ‘it tastes like chicken’ – well our customers are going to be amazed and say, ‘it tastes like Kentucky Fried Chicken!'”
Beyond Meat’s chicken substitute is made from a mix of soy and pea protein along with various seasonings and stabilising agents.
