Press the buzzer for espresso martinis or hot cinnamon doughnuts delivered to your chair.
It’s the question that has plagued film buffs since the dawn of Netflix and Stan. Why leave the comfort of your own sofa, where you can surround yourself with doonas, pillows, wine and last night’s leftovers, for a paid session at the cinemas?
And it’s a valid argument, or at least it was, until Event Cinemas launched Event Boutique, otherwise known as, the movie-watching experience of your adult dreams.
Now open at Event Cinemas George Street in Sydney, Event Boutique consists of two exclusive viewing rooms, each one elaborately styled to a theme. There’s a ritzy red-carpeted Paparazzi room perfect for your big name blockbusters as well as a book-lined Library for those with more subtitled tastes.

Compared to the usual 250 seats, the rooms are equipped with just 46 and 32 chairs – and by chairs, we mean the best leather recliners you or your nan have ever sat on – with adjustable headrests and footrests that can pretty much take you horizontal. Chairs are intimately grouped in twos and fours, with each row on a new level so there’s never a big, fat head in the way.
If you’ve already got a pretty sweet home cinema set-up, Event Boutique takes it to the next level with 4K high contrast laser projection technology, which is currently unmatched in theatrical exhibition. This is complemented with world-class sound from a Dolby 7.1 audio system, featuring speakers, amplifiers and cinema processors, as well as a really big screen that makes your TV look like an iPhone in comparison.

However, perhaps most impressive of all is the food offering. No more jumbo popcorn and Coke (unless you want them) or smuggling in a burger to everyone else’s disgust. You can now order charcuterie from Vic’s Meats sliced fresh to order and delivered to your chair. There’s also smoked mozzarella arancini, a braised brisket pie, cinnamon doughnuts, premium ice cream pints and a selection of freshly made dips and cheeses – basically, everything you wish you had in your fridge but never actually do. Decide you suddenly want a glass of Champagne or another G&T? Simply press the buzzer on your chair and a waiter comes running to take your order.
So, unless you get that kind of service at home (and if you do, can we come over?) this is one movie-watching experience you have to check out.
