Start your New Year the best way possible.
As many of us know from firsthand experience, not all New Year’s Eve parties are created equal. Some will see you crammed onto balconies with no actual view of the fireworks, while others have you paying a horrific cover charge for sad canapes and watered-down drinks.
And then there’s the NYE party at Mary’s Underground. Located at the former Basement site, Jake Smyth and Kenny Graham invite you to ring in the new year Mary’s-style, which means, feasting on an ultra decadent food menu with matching wines, dancing all night to live jazz and pumping DJs, and if that wasn’t enough, they’re also just two minutes from the fireworks at Sydney Harbour.
Mary’s Underground co-owner, Jake Smyth said: “When we realised we could throw a dinner party, literally one block from the fireworks at Circular Quay, our heads exploded. We have split the night into two, based around the different fireworks – with a family sitting to finish in time for the 9pm fireworks, then an old fashioned knees up dinner party, with our guests able to pop out to see the fireworks and return to [the] safety of the Underground to keep the party going to the morning! Add our Underground Brass Band, DJ’s and dancers and we gonna be blowing the door down on 2020!”

Naturally, the menu is as epic as you would expect it to be, with three types of Sydney rock oysters, a rotisserie-roasted crown of dry-aged duck with confit legs, and sweet corn with caciocavallo cheese (and loads more) – followed by the big finish – a bombe Alaska flamed in mezcal. And, like all Mary’s venues, there’s also options for your vegetarian, vegan and non-drinking friends.
Mary’s Underground will offer two party packages this New Year’s Eve. The NYE Family package, which will run from 5.30pm-8.30pm at a price of $150 for adults, $80 for teens (12-17 years), $40 for kids (aged 12 and under), with the option of matching wines for $70. For the late-night revellers, there’s the Fireworks Fest which runs from 9pm-12am at a price of $300 with matching wines for $80.
