With eating and drinking for 400 on the cards.
Understanding the nation’s passion for a beachside beverage, Greg Anderson and Patricia Nunes are set to welcome a major new drinking space to the shores of Manly Beach. The duo behind Sails on Lavender Bay have now turned their attention to the multi-storey (and multi-purpose) Manly Greenhouse.
The beachfront bar and restaurant will be nothing short of impressive once it reaches completion in April 2018. An intended hub for Manly locals and visitors alike, the venue is housed in the former Shore Club Hotel, set to be transformed into a venue that accommodates an impressive 400.
The space will incorporate three distinct levels within, including a casual street-level bar with all-day dining, a middle-level grill restaurant, and a rooftop bar. All will be designed by award-winning studio Luchetti Krelle who was behind the sleek interiors of both ACME and Banksii. The venue’s design has taken inspiration from its name, with the steel and transparent materials present in a greenhouse used throughout. There is also plenty of greenery that comes courtesy of a collaboration with local plant specialists, The Plant Room and illustrator Beci Orphin. ‘Verdant, lush plant life and a specially commissioned series of pressed flowers, representing indigenous flora and natives’ has been promised.
As for food, the bar on the ground floor will host a bar, coffee counter and pizza oven for casual feeds. A charcoal grill will take centre stage on the next level, where dining is set to be more refined. Upstairs on the rooftop, cocktails aplenty will be served alongside panoramic coastal views.
‘The space has been vacant for almost four years, a wasted opportunity for our locals and visitors to enjoy those spectacular views – whether over a morning coffee, intimate dinner or rooftop cocktail,” says Greg of the duo’s plans for the site. “We’ve witnessed the Manly Wharf grow in popularity over the years and we believe now is the time to breathe new life and hospitality into one of Sydney’s best beachfronts.”
