Lost Picnic is back after a three-year hiatus.
Music festivals are rarely known for their fare, which is exactly what inspired the creation of Lost Picnic. The Sydney-based event is a forum for good food and good entertainment, all in the one place.
The festival is the creation of Simon Beckingham and Wade Cawood, who used to host electronic and dance events and are the duo responsible for creative NYE bash Lost Paradise. After a hiatus, Lost Picnic is making a comeback to Sydney, moving venues to the Domain from Centennial Park.
For Simon, Lost Picnic was about offering something outside the standard festival experience. “Events have evolved from being fairly one dimensional to more rounded experiences that appeal to all the senses,” he says. “We’re about creating unique shared moments between friends and family. The popularity of Lost Picnic is a great example of that shift toward well thought-out, lovingly curated events full of memories to cherish.”
The event itself is intended to offering something for everyone. “Lost picnic is a mix of art, theatre, incredible food and outstanding musical talent – the vibe is unlike any other I’ve experienced at events here or overseas,” Simon continues.
But there will still be music aplenty, with the line-up for this year’s event including Fat Freddy’s Drop, Montaigne, Sarah Blasko,The Teskey Brothers, and All Our Exes Live in Texas. The Beatle Boys will also be there in celebration of the the 50th Anniversary of the Summer of Love and release of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club, paying homage in collaboration with the Australian Symphony Orchestra.
Music isn’t the only thing that will attract punters on the day. Lost Picnic has teamed up with some of Sydney’s best restaurants to provide a selection of fine-dining dishes and gourmet hampers, from the likes of The Tel Aviv Issue. Grandma’s, Mamak, and Chur Burger. There will also be fare on offer from Australia’s largest organic restaurant Agape, with chef Simon Lawson providing spit roasted biodynamic suckling pig among other gourmet items. Homemade arancini, porchetta rolls and Mediterranean antipasto from chef Antonio Sabia of Woolloomooloo’s famed Puntino Trattoria will also feature. And of course there will be drinks and dessert available – with White Rabbit and KOI Dessert Truck chipping in.
Lost Picnic will be held at the Domain for 2017’s event, offering guests a chance to throw down a picnic blanket and tuck into a hamper in-between performance sets. The festival will run from midday to 8pm, with tickets and gourmet hampers available to purchase online.
