With 100 percent of proceeds going to the Australian Red Cross.
In the spirit of solidarity, 30 of the city’s best chefs will come together this Sunday for Cook for the Bush, an all-day brunch, lunch and bake sale, which will see 100 percent of proceeds donated to the Red Cross.
Held at various venues along Commonwealth Street in Surry Hills, the event will feature an all-day brunch event at Nomad, a rooftop lunch at Paramount Recreation Club and an old fashioned bake sale at Chin Chin.
The bake sale will offer up both sweet and savoury baked goods, with Danielle Alvarez from Fred’s contributing zucchini and buckwheat bread, Guillaume Brahimi from Bistro Guillaume whipping up French macarons and Carol and Sharon Salloum from Almond Bar bringing the homemade baklava.
Event organiser and Nomad executive chef Jacqui Challinor said: “After feeling completely helpless for weeks, I realised that as a community working together, we could have more of an impact than I ever could alone.
“Feeding people is what we do best so it makes sense that we take that and turn it into something truly valuable. What is happening in our country is completely heartbreaking and it’s going to take community spirit, not just money to build us back up again.”
All produce has been donated as well as everyone’s time, with the event hoping to raise upwards of $100,000 for bushfire victims. Many of the restaurants taking part have also generously donated dining vouchers which will be auctioned off online.
