Just in: Restaurants and bars in NSW to reopen to the fully vaxxed under new "Freedom Plan"

Sydney CBD

Get your order ready.

The NSW Police Minister David Elliott has confirmed that the state’s restaurants and bars is set to reopen to fully vaccinated patrons when NSW hits its vaccination target of 70 per cent.

It’s part of a new “freedom plan” that Premier Gladys Berejiklian is expected to sign off on this week.

Under the scheme, those who have received their double jab will be permitted to dine outdoors in restaurant settings or have a drink in a beer garden, with social distancing and capacity restrictions in place.

Patrons would gain entry to venues by showing a passport-style double vaccination certificate, which would be made available online, linked to Medicare.

The 70 per cent vaccination target is expected to be hit in mid to late October.

It’s a light at the end of the tunnel for lockdown-fatigued Sydneysiders, who have been under stay-at-home order for 55 days.

More to come.
