Spit-roasted meats, wine from the Adelaide Hills and, best of all, no cutlery, writes Sophie Kitchen.
Forget about silverware and fancy frocks, this isn’t an event requiring those finer things. On July 29 as part of the Adelaide Hills Winter Reds Weekend, Unico Zelo winery and Glen Ewin Estate will join forces to throw a Feast of Valhalla. Glen Ewin’s Pulpshed will play host to what’s set to be a raucous night of epic proportions embedded with true Viking spirit.
The event – comprising of foraged fare fit for the Nordic gods – marks the launch of former Orana and Blackwood head chef Shannon Fleming’s catering business, Forgotten Seasons. Guests will enjoy a banquet of spit-roasted meats, including suckling Berkshire pork basted in mead and slow-smoked lamb rack with mountain pepper. While you await the epic mains, tables will be made heavy with such nibbles as spicy venison jerky, pickled tommy ruff and barbecued Spencer Gulf prawns. Traditional Viking sweets will be served for dessert – but we can’t give all the secrets away!
For the thirsty hordes, hot mulled Truffle Hound nebbiolo, Applewood Gin negronis and several fine Adelaide Hills reds will be on offer, as well as a bar for those requiring extra refreshment. And no need for a designated driver; buses will be available to and from Adelaide CBD for $20.
Tickets are available online now at $150pp plus booking fee.
