Brisbane Powerhouse welcomes Mary Mae's

WATT

The riverside drinking hub has been replaced by Mary Mae's.

After 11 years, quenching the thirst and hunger pangs of Brisbane Powerhouse visitors, Watt has closed. The casual restaurant and bar famed for its Sunday sessions has been retired by owners Trippas White Group.

But fear not Brisbanites eager to drink by the riverside, for the Brisbane institution has been replaced by something rather exciting. Watt has made way for Mary Mae’s, a Louisiana-based eatery inspired by the rollin’ on the river of Creedence Clearwater Revival.

Think cocktails, live music, and spice-laden share plates that will make you think you’re in the French Quarter rather than a bend of the Brown Snake.  Dishes here are designed to be shared, from DIY beef brisket tortillas to oyster po’boy sliders (served with slaw, naturally).

But it’s not just drinking that Mary Mae’s will specialise in. The new space has plans to take over the title of brunch favourite thanks to an expansive daily offering of morning bites. It’s on weekends that brunch is really kicked into gear, with Mary Mae’s hosting The Queen Mary Long Brunch on Saturdays from 10.30am. Think a set menu (four-course) partnered with the equally tempting and terrifying option to add bottomless bubbles or (in an ode to the venue) Bloody Mary’s.
