Grab a glass of bubbly at QVB's new Champagne parlour and bar Reign

Reign.
Reign.

The former ABC shop looks a little different these days.

Sydney’s central Queen Victoria Building won’t be known as just a shopping mecca for much longer. Soon it will be a go-to for fans of fizzy thanks to the arrival of a new late-night Champagne parlour and bar.

Arriving on March 15, Reign will sit on level 1 of the QVB, taking over the space formerly occupied by the ABC store. The new space is a far cry from its original occupant, now a haven of pink seating, marble, and brass accents that will cater to up to 140. There’s also good news for the nocturnal (or those who pulled a late one at work); Reign will be open until midnight weekdays and midnight on weekends.

As a Champagne specialist you can expect more than a few glasses of fizz to be available. There’s 150 to be exact, an array of Champagne and sparkling wine collected the world over. There’s also a number of tasting flights available, to take you on a trip through the different flavours of France’s most renowned houses.

Cocktails? Expect many. There’s the Imperator (Hippocampus Bangkok Gin, Italicus Rosolio, jasmine soda, yuzu wash) and the Eleanor among others (Gran Classico Bitter, Pampelle Ruby l’Apero, watermelon and Prosecco topped with candied lime rim and an origami grown).

Food is just as extravagant. There’s a burger sure, but it’s an okonomiyaki burger, formed from a beef patty, with sweet and sour peppers, smoked tofu, and spicy mayo. Or perhaps the half dozen rock oysters, with mignonette and lemon is more your style, or the blistered Padrón peppers with lychee lassi. Reign hasn’t scrimped on dessert either, the thyme and honey ice cream brownie sandwich served with plums sounds particularly enticing.
