Sake will be hosting a Japanese picnic.

Sydney might not see the same sakura action as Japan, but that hasn’t stopped our restaurants from getting in on the floral fun.

This year, Sake Restaurant & Bar is putting on its very own cherry blossom festival, which will celebrate the annual tradition with elaborate in-house floral displays, special chef dinners, and for the first time, a Japanese picnic.

Held in Sake’s private dining rooms, guests are invited to brunch amongst the blooms from sakura-shaped cushions and tatami mats. The special picnic menu will be made up of Japanese-style share plates, from sashimi tuna with crispy rice to shumai dumplings and miso short ribs, served alongside all-you-can-drink pink champagne (Veuve Clicquot Rosé) as well as Cloudy Bay wine and Sapporo beer.

Sip one of the new springtime cocktails.

Throughout September, Sake chefs will also debut a special cherry blossom-themed menu, which will celebrate fresh spring flavours. Taking inspiration from either East or West Japan, diners can sample the best in new season produce, from spring vegetable tempura to scampi sashimi and yuzu tarts with seasonal ice-cream.
