It's veganuary after all.
A meat-heavy burger joint isn’t the most likely of venues to host a vegan guru, but nonetheless Smith & Daughters’ Shannon Martinez has just confirmed her tenancy at Mary’s in Sydney.
The Melbourne-based chef will be bringing her revered veg-favouring fare to the meat-heavy hub on January 28, as a part of the return of Mary’s Jump In The Fire event series. Set to be resurrected on the last Monday of every month, the collaboration-based series invites some of Australia’s top foodies to take the famed burger space hostage for a single evening.
It’s not just chefs which are involved in Jump In The Fire (though they are the majority) but producers, importers, sommeliers, and even food writers are also welcomed to curate the Sydney venue’s food and drink offering for a designated date. The idea of “Jumping in the Fire” truly embodies what it means to experience Mary’s; a venue that pushes boundaries whilst delivering delicious, high-quality food,” Mary’s explains of the pop-up concept.
Martinez’s stint will also see the famed carnivore haven turn vegan for the day. Joined by Liz Carey of Food + Wine Solutions, Martinez will be churning out a curated collection of vegan fare from 6pm. “What better way to start the year than getting two of the strongest women in our industry to turn Mary’s on it’s head,” says Martinez. “Vegan food and jeroboams (that is six bottles of wine in one giant bottle). You should all be very excited…and afraid.”
