Elizabeth Bay brunch fanatics best prepare themselves.
Shuk has long been considered one of Sydney’s favourite cafés; no mean feat considering the Israeli-inspired venue sits within a district where cafés have long saturated the marketplace.
Now the Bondi Beach local will be introducing a second café venture, joining the original institution and the existing offshoot Shuk Bakery. The next chapter for the eatery will see a new venue set up shop on the fringe of Potts Point in the redeveloped Trebartha Apartments at Roslyn Gardens, Elizabeth Bay.
The Shuk team – consisting of Yonatan Kalfus, Erez Beker, Ariel Hefer and German Sanchez – were eager to find a new space that reflects the same values and vibe of the original beachside venue. “Shuk is about creating a place where locals feel at home, while also being a destination for others,” says Kalfus. “We’re a short stroll from the main Bondi precinct and this has worked so well for us that we want to bring that same unhurried, community feel to Elizabeth Bay.”
All of your favourite dishes from the original Shuk will be available at the new space. The shakshuka breakfast, hummus and lamb, and the grilled haloumi salad will be incorporated into a menu within which head chef German Sanchez has introduced a handful of new additions. “We’re excited to expand and improve our menu,” he says, confirming that dinners will be the real focus on the sibling venue. “But we want to maintain that relaxed atmosphere locals love at Shuk Bondi. Shuk is a great place for conversation and laughter as well as good food.”
“We feel Shuk is the perfect fit for Trebartha Apartments and will provide a new dining experience for village residents, as well as the broader community,” says Lendlease’s David Bowen of the latest addition to the group’s new development.
Shuk Elizabeth Bay will be open for breakfast and lunch seven days a week, and dinner Thursday through Sunday.
