If you can't handle the heat, stay out of the Sichuan Snack fair.

Consider yourself a chilli fiend? This March, Melbourne is set to host a Sichuan street fair, dedicated to China’s spiciest regional cuisine. Challenge accepted.

Held as part of the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival, the event will see Queen Victoria Market transform into a province of Southwest China for the day, with food stands by some of the city’s hottest restaurants, from Dainty Sichuan to Spice Temple, Lee Ho Fook, Supernormal, Sun Kitchen, Super Line, Belles Hot Chicken, and more.

The event will include something for all tolerances, from the mildly spicy and pleasantly numbing all the way up to the searing equivalent of edible pepper spray.

Aside from chowing down on Chinese food, you will also be able to attend a number of discussions and demonstrations, that is, if you haven’t burnt your tongue yet.

For those who are interested in learning more about Sichuan food culture,  Chinese cuisine specialist and author of “The Food of Sichuan”, Fuchsia Dunlop, will also be on hand to answer questions.

The Sichuan Snack Fair takes place at Shed X and Queen Street at Queen Victoria Market on Sunday, 11am – 5pm. Entry is free, with a selection of food and drinks available for purchase throughout the day or until sold out.  The event is cashless; please bring a credit/debit card.
