It's where after-work drinks are heading.
We’re smack bang in the middle of prime beer garden season right now – at least we would be if it would just stop raining already. And for Sydneysiders willing to brave the elements, there’s a brand new rooftop oasis that’s calling your name.
It might be right in the heart of Barangaroo, but this Mediterranean-inspired terrace bar tucked away at top of the Sussex Hotel feels about as far from the hustle and bustle as that Greek island taverna you wish you were at right now. The grapevine canopy, olive tree, travertine tiles and curved white plaster all add to the Med vibe, as does the limited menu, which features such unsurprising additions as mezze plates, kebabs and potato wedges. But you likely won’t care much about food once you’re ensconced, cocktail in hand, at one of the bar’s high tables, gazing across at the city’s shiny skyscrapers. If you’re there on a weekday, make sure to wave gaily to any office workers unlucky enough to have a facing window seat.

When it comes to your choice of tipple, you can opt for one of the classics, like a mojito or caprioska. But while you’re here, you might as well try a Sussex signature cocktail, such as La Vida (rosa gin, grapefruit, rosewater and aquafaba), Sundown Fizz (Absolut Vodka, crème de cassis, ginger ale and lime) or Eastside (Bombay gin, cucumber, mint and lime). It’s the perfect way to wile away an afternoon. Just don’t forget your umbrella.
