It's last call for the living legend that changed Australian cuisine forever.
Despite plans to relocate to a new site, Tetsuya’s will be closing permanently after 37 incredible years.
In a statement on the closure, chef/owner Tetsuya Wakuda explained, “Our plans to relocate Tetsuya’s to a new site after it closes at the end of July have unfortunately not worked out and I have made the very difficult decision to permanently close the restaurant after 37 years of business.”
“We have spent the last 18 months planning the move and the new restaurant so this was not an easy decision, but sometimes things just don’t go to plan.”
In September 2022, Tetsuya’s announced on Instagram that it would close its iconic Kent Street restaurant in August 2023, due to the current location becoming a redevelopment site.

However, due to construction delays and the Tet’s team struggling to find a venue befitting of such legend, the Kent Street fine-diner determined it would stay put until the eleventh hour. Now it appears that no other location can replicate the magic that takes place at the historic Tetsuya’s, which has seen some of Australia’s finest culinary talent walk through its kitchen doors.
For nearly four decades, Tetsuya’s has been a bucket list experience, drawing visitors from around the globe to try the famous confit trout that has been the restaurant’s signature for almost as long.
Guests will have the opportunity to experience the restaurant’s exquisite food and ambience for the next 79 days, until its final closure on July 31, 2024.
