Sydney's The Apollo is heading north to Brisbane

Apollo

Is this the start of a new Greek empire.

Brisbane is hardly immune to the appeals of Greek cuisine. You need only look at the city’s annual Paniyiri Greek Festival for proof, which draws in crowds of 60,000 plus. But now Queensland’s Mediterranean offerings are looking a little more sophisticated thanks to the arrival of Sydney’s favourite Hellenic eatery The Apollo Restaurant.

Co-owner Jonathan Barthelmess has confirmed that the new Brisbane venture is on the cards for as early as next year. But just don’t expect an Apollo 2.0. Barthelmess will be moving north without the help of current Apollo co-pilot (and Longrain owner) Sam Christie. Instead, he will be striking out on his own with the new venture, only confirming that it will retain a Greek focus, albeit in a new kind of concept.

Only time will tell as to how the new venue will differ from the original, but there’s no doubt that plenty of Brisbane locals will be popping in for a quick ‘yassou’.
