The unthinkable has happened.
Whether you’re for or against crusts, I think we can all agree that a pizza made up entirely of crusts is a very disturbing thing. Yet, it’s happened. US pizza chain, Villa Italian Kitchen, has just launched a “Just the Crusts” pizza (if you can still call it that) made up of six chewy dough sticks, arranged like a slice.
Apparently, the new specialty ‘pizza’ came about after the chain received thousands of inquiries from crust-loving carb loaders, specifically requesting the menu item.
“We are huge pizza crust fans at Villa Italian Kitchen,” says Villa Kitchen’s director of communications and digital market, Mimi Wunderlich.
“We know that the crust is everyone’s favorite part of the pizza, so skipping straight to selling pizza crusts only seemed like the perfect idea.”
While the offering may look like a shoddy arrangement of half-eaten crusts, Wunderlich denies it.
“To make the crust, we use our handmade, fresh dough and create the outline of our famed Neapolitan pizza. Our staff of crust experts delicately position splashes of sauce and cheese around the outline, which is then baked to golden-brown perfection.”
“We wanted to provide an authentic crust experience, which is why it is done this way.
Priced at $2.75 the Just the Crusts offering is available from participating Villa Italian Kitchens for a limited time only.
