And you're invited.
Long gone are the days where a music festival’s only food options were hot chips and a dagwood dog. Now, thanks to a lingering obsession with gourmet fare, festival cuisine is decidedly more delicious. Especially when it comes to Sydney City Limits.
The younger sister to the acclaimed Austin City Limits Festival will reach Sydney on February 24, featuring a line-up of Justice, Beck, Vance Joy, Phoenix, Tash Sultana, Grace Jones, Gang of Youths, Dune Rats, The Libertines, The Avalanches, and Allday. But who cares about the musical acts on offer when the food line-up is this impressive. Mary’s Newtown and The Unicorn’s Jake Smyth and Kenny Graham have been dubbed the curators of the festival’s cuisine and have brought together the who’s who of the Sydney dining scene for punters to enjoy.
Prepare to gorge on Fratelli Paradiso pasta, Da Orazio porchetta rolls, Porteno’s full wood-fired grill, fried chicken and poutine from Hartstyard, vegan Mexican from Bad Hombres, Rising Sun Ramen, Fat Fish fish and chips, Paper Bird Korean bowls, Artificer coffee, O Tama Carey’s Sri Lankan Hoppas and of course Mary’s burgers to name but a few offerings. It’s a celebration of the city’s food stars, or so say the boys behind the program.
“As born and bred Sydney-siders, we are as proud as punch to be the food and booze co-conspirators for the first ever Sydney City Limits!” they comment. “What a goddamn honour! We will be bringing the very f*%king best of our vibrant and diverse food scene – throwing the net further than the usual inner-city limits. This festival has long been a celebration of its host city, and we plan to celebrate Sydney with all our naughty little hearts! Long Live Sydney!!”
Updating the traditional festival food offerings was also important to the event’s co-producer Jessica Ducrou. “Super excited to have Jake and Kenny onboard for Sydney City Limits! I couldn’t think of anyone more suited to craft our food and booze offerings, their ability to sniff out the best pho in town is nothing less than aspirational! Its very cool that we get to present great music alongside the best eats in town, thanks Jake and Kenny for the extra kgs,” she says.
