This is the world's best restaurant

The World's 50 Best Restaurants were announced last night.

Much loved chef Massimo Bottura (and star of Netflix’s Chef’s Table series) has been crowned the owner of the world’s best restaurant, achieving the position of number one with his eatery Osteria Francescana in the World’s 50 Best Restaurants awards.

The three-Michelin-star restaurant in Modena is focused on the avant-garde of Italian dining and is famed for dishes including ‘Oops, I Dropped the Lemon Tart’. This is the second time that Osteria Francescana has been dubbed the world’s best; in 2016 it received top gong but was pipped to the post by New York’s Eleven Madison Park last year. 2018’s other place-holders include El Celler de Can Roca in Catalonia at number 2, while Mirazur in Southern France moved to number 3. Eleven Madison Park dropped to number 4, thanks in part to a four-month closure due to renovations.

Australia’s best ranking restaurant is Melbourne’s Attica, run by chef Ben Shewry, which landed number 20 in the list. Notable absences from this year’s awards include chef Dominique Crenn, as well as Rene Redzepi’s Noma 2.0 which didn’t open in time for the voting process.
