South Australia isn’t just vineyards, as its burgeoning restaurant offerings go to show. The Greenhouse Restaurant is the southern capital’s most recent addition. Launching in early April the eatery sits within the revamped Feathers Hotel Precinct on the city’s outskirts, offering a touch of sophistication to the district courtesy of a sleek Asian menu, and a particularly impressive fine wine cellar (it is in South Australia after all) all housed in a rather sleek atrium.

Executive Chef Luke Brabin is the man behind the recently launched menu, which draws inspiration from the British Empire’s forays into Southeast Asia. “The menu has been a labour of love and passion, merging the influence of the Empire’s journey into Southeast Asia,” says Brabin. “Expect your taste buds to dance along the spice trails of Singapore, China
and Malay whilst savouring the very best local produce on offer. I hope our diners enjoy eating it as much as I’ve loved preparing it.” Think signature dishes of Singaporean chilli soft-shell crab, Cone Bay barramundi in assam sour broth with okra, spice trail duck masala and a delicious Nonya beef cheek with toasted coconut.

The Greenhouse Restaurant is part of a wider refurbishment of the precinct in which it sits, joining a new-look Garden Bar and Lounge. The total revamp totalled $1.2 million and incorporated a complete internal and external makeover courtesy of the efforts of Carlo Panozzo of Folland Panozzo Architects, Interior Designer Claire Kneebone and Matthews Hospitality Creative Director Sarah Matthews. As its name suggests, The Greenhouse is an atrium-style space, overflowing with lush greenery, banquet seating, warm pendant lighting, and contemporary Georgian accents – it’s embraced a self-described ‘opulent garden aesthetic’. Neighbouring the restaurant is the lounge, a space focused on suave opulence. There you’ll find plenty of velvet and low-slung seating to accompany its lengthy drinks list.

Matthews Hospitality Operations Manager and Director Mr Shaun Matthews, is thrilled to officially launch the revamped new precinct. “The Feathers Hotel has a long, proud history in Adelaide’s eastern suburbs community,” he says, “We are thrilled to bring people a brand new sophisticated dining space, as well as our new-look Garden Bar and Lounge, which completes our broader entertainment precinct – also incorporating our stunning casual Pavilion dining space and outdoor Terrace area. We are proud to offer a multi-faceted entertainment and eating precinct that caters to absolutely everyone.” But perhaps the jewel in the crown of the dining offering is its outlandish collection of wine sitting within its cellar. “Our new fine wine cellar in the restaurant, headed up by Sommelier Geoff Hunt who worked with Luke at FermentAsia, also means the discerning wine lover can enjoy access to a variety of new and old-world wine – something usually reserved for the top-end of town that can now be experienced right here at Feathers.”
