Sisters and business partners Silvana and Mariana Villegas are obviously just as focused on their product as they are the space in which its enjoyed. The duo’s second Masa Bakery just opened an outpost in Colombia’s Bogota that is nothing short of show-stopping. The architectural feat was designed by New York studio Cadena and may well be the most sleek bakery we’ve ever seen.

While a flight to Colombia is required for a visit, we’re sure that those devoted to pastry and design won’t need too much convincing. After all, the 700 square metre space contains a cafe within, as well as a separate retail area and outdoor patio to boot. There is also, of course, the bakery itself, laden with specialty tarts, pastries, doughnuts, tartines, sandwiches, and Colombian carb-heavy favourites.

Industrial was obviously at the heart of the creator’s vision. The designers have equipped Masa with a long concrete bar and a multi-tiered seating platform on which guests can sit and nibble their pastries of choice. Long communal wooden tables are strewn throughout, accompanied by a smattering of greenery and large, angular windows (matching equally angular lighting) that allows ample natural light into the space as well as views into the neighbouring garden.

“In any space in the restaurant you might hear or smell things that give a sense of the adjacent spaces, but it isn’t completely open allowing diners to move freely whilst distinct sectors are fragmented for intimacy,” Benjamin Cadena of Studio Cadena explained to We Heart of the open plan intentions. So much thought obviously went into this bakery, it’s a shame Australia doesn’t have one quite so Instagram-friendly. With that in mind, who else fancies a trip to Colombia?
