Adelaide-based gin producer Never Never Distilling Co has opened a distillery door in the picturesque McLaren Vale. The architect-designed ‘drinking shed’ showcases spectacular 300-degree views of the region, making it a very scenic spot to sip on the World’s Best Classic Gin 2019.

The building pays homage to the farming sheds that dominate the wine region’s landscape with its expansive covered deck, horizontal corrugated iron and internal steel supports. Inside, sleek timber and burnt umber accents channel the sophistication of an inner-city bar experience.

The distillery currently produces four gins as well as a Pimm’s-inspired fruit cup, aquavit, and black juniper amaro. The one to try is the Southern Strength Gin, which was named World’s Best Classic Gin in the World Gin Awards 2019. The spritely spirit reveals fragrant pine, bright citrus and earthy angelica on the nose, followed by spicy juniper and pepper berry on the palate, with late-developing cinnamon warmth.

The distillery door will offer a range of gin experiences, from distillery tours to tasting flights and expert-led masterclasses. The venue is run by general manager Stewart Morrow, who joins the team from award-winning Sydney bar, The Baxter Inn.

Never Never distillery door joins Chalk Hill Wines Cellar Door and Vera Pizza Oztalia at the Chalk Hill Collective. It’s located at 56 Field Street, McLaren Vale. It opens February 15, 2020 from Wed–Mon (closed Tuesdays) 11am–6pm. During the summer months, the venue will remain open until 10pm on Friday evenings.
