Reynold Poernomo’s Chippendale patisserie has created a Wealthy Cake for Lunar New Year and it sounds like a good investment to us. The Asian-inspired dessert is made from lucky red ingredients including pomegranate, cherry and hibiscus, with vanilla and gold leaf, finished with a mock orange fruit to signify good fortune. Everyone’s favourite yum cha dessert will be returning to Gelato Messina this Lunar New Year. Forget waiting for the trolley to come around, Messina’s take on the popular pancake sees thin mango crepes filled with mango sorbet and fluffy cream. Australia’s punk princess of pastry Anna Polyviou has put together this disturbingly delicious rat cake, made from lychee and strawberry jelly, vanilla brûlée, ginger financier and caramelised vanilla mousse, topped with a white mirror glaze. Aria is running a red degustation this month, inspired by the colour of the Lunar New Year. Executive chef Joel Bickford has put together a monochrome menu that finishes with a white chocolate, mango and lychee dessert topped with gold leaf (pictured). In the spirit of the New Year, guests who have spent over $500 will receive a $100 voucher in a red envelope, redeemable on their next visit to Aria, Chophouse, Chiswick or Bea.
