The lowdown
The menu’s ethos is ‘100 per cent powered by plants, Alt Ctrl Eat is fast food, with real values to reset the soul’ – and I think it’s safe to say we’re all going through a bit of a soul reset in the current climate.

Ovolo’s Alibi team has taken this time to launch into takeaway with a menu to satisfy even the wildest of fast-food dreams. The hotdog is stuffed as full as you’d expect to get from a baseball stadium in the States but far more fancy, with an Alt Meat Co sausage, slaw, American mustard, ketchup and crispy shallots all in a vegan brioche bun. The side of loaded fries is covered in gooey vegan cheese that I can’t believe is plant based, with crunchy jalapenos on top for a nice hit of spice to cut through the richness.
Not one to under-indulge, I tried the cheeseburger too, and the Alt Meat Co patty, cheese, pickles, onion, ketchup and mustard further confirm that this plant-based trickery is hitting the mark. Juicy ‘meat’, sharp pickles and just the right amount of sauce to bring it all together.
While I have convinced myself the food being so completely plant-based makes it healthy, if you did indeed want to venture into a more virtuous order you could select from the ‘Something Clean’ part of the menu. The gluten-free kelp noodles with flavour-of-the-moment cacio e pepe were a nice, fresh addition to my otherwise indulgent feast.

Something to drink?
There’s sparkling, champagne, wines, beers and spirits available to order at reasonable prices so make sure you grab something to wash it all down.
Price
A burger and fries would set you back $18, or make it the jalapeno loaded fries for $24 all up.
Order up
Add double meat to your burger ($6), a vegan fried egg ($3) or even a hash brown ($2). There’s also ‘Baby Got Mac’ mac ‘n’ cheese burger, an open chicken waffle and eggplant katsu.
