Another beloved Sydney venue is closing its doors

The Devonshire

And the light rail construction is to blame.

Devonshire Street in Surry HIlls has long been the scene of plenty of construction, thanks to the immenent addition of the light rail network. But unfortunately, the ongoing build has proven a headache for hospitality venues, and has encouraged the closure of two in the past year.

Following in the footsteps of popular brunch joint The Book Kitchen is The Devonshire. The restaurant – which held a chef’s hat for some time – offered fine dining options, with a popular degustation offering. But while the restaurant has retained a loyal following of patrons, the lack of foot traffic is proving an issue to the business and has led to its decided closure. As to when the restaurant itself will shut up shop, owner and chef Jeremy Bentley has said that it will be the end of the venue’s lease next month.

Until then you’ll be able to make bookings for the venue online.
