Expect a curated menu of buttermilk lemon scones and crab sliders with sparkling wine.

From this Friday, visitors to the Art Gallery of NSW will be able to take in masterpieces by Monet, Manet, and now Moran, following the launch of a new gallery restaurant.

Called Art Gallery Restaurant Crafted by Matt Moran, the new Mediterranean diner will take over from Moran’s previous offering, Chiswick at the Gallery.

True to the Moran style, the restaurant will showcase locally-sourced produce and the best in Australian meat and seafood.

The restaurant will open during the day with a menu of light, seasonal Mediterranean-style dishes.  The brunch menu will include buttermilk lemon scones and crab sliders, alongside tea and Single O coffee and sparkling wine. For lunch, there’s antipasti such as Alto olive oil focaccia paired with taramasalata as well as beef carpaccio with radicchio and parmesan, grilled swordfish with sautéed Italian greens and blueberry and almond crostata with lemon mascarpone for dessert.

The drinks menu has been curated by Samantha Payne and features an all-Australian wine list, as well as Champagne, cocktails, beers, ciders and a substantial non-alcoholic offering.

“The Art Gallery of NSW holds a special place in my heart, having worked with the venue for the last seven years,” Matt Moran said.  “It’s an incredible venue, and grazing your way through our brunch, lunch or afternoon tea menu, while inside one of Sydney’s cultural hubs is unbeatable in my opinion – there’s no better day out. In fact, many of the dishes have been inspired by the unique space itself.”

Matt Moran has also been appointed culinary advisor for the gallery, which means he will also oversee the venue’s food, beverage and catering program.

Crafted by Matt Moran will open five days a week for brunch and lunch, beginning March 26. Bookings and further info available at craftedbymattmoran.com.au
