And there’s not a battered sav in sight.
Not your usual chippie, Fishbowl founders Nathan Dalah, Nic Pestalozzi and Casper Ettelson have opened a modern fish shop in Bondi that trades up the fried fillets for fresh, sustainable seafood and seasonal salads.
Forget the flake, Fish Shop has better fish to fry. The Mediterranean-inspired menu by Three Blue Ducks chef Joel Bennetts only features the finest fish, from ocean trout to ora king salmon, snapper, barramundi and swordfish, with snacks like apellation oysters and gravalax to start.
Alongside the usual tartare, you can also freshen up your fillets with a range of housemade sauces and condiments, including salsa verde, caponata, or ladolemono, a Greek-style lemon dressing.

Skip the chips and try some of the vibrant sides that include cauliflower with pistachios and tahini, or a rocket, fennel and orange salad with candied walnuts.
If you’re not quite convinced by Bondi’s #cleaneating culture, they’ve also included a serve of classic battered fish and chips (phew).
Best of all you can trade up the ginger beer for an actual beer, wine or cocktail, with Aperol spritz, G&Ts, negronis and yuzu soda on offer.
Just don’t expect the usual beachside seafood shack. Fish Shop has been given a sleek industrial fit-out that combines large-format terrazzo tiles with floor-to-ceiling windows that look out across the adjacent park. If you’re inspired by all the green grass and blue sky, you can borrow a picnic blanket and change your order to takeaway, with a curated selection of lunch boxes to go.

Founder Nathan Dalah said: “We figured – people love food when it’s simple, clean, healthy and feels great. Could we create a new restaurant experience whereby instead of a traditional menu we simply feature market-fresh seafood paired with chef-driven condiments, salads and vegetables? It’s simple, clean, healthy and delivers insane value.”
