Luke's Kitchen is set to replace the longterm resident.
It’s out with the old, in with the new for Luke Mangan who is undergoing a bit of a rebrand of late. Namely, the restaurateur is bidding goodbye to longterm Waterloo resident Mojo, replacing the wine bar with the first eatery with his new brand Luke’s Kitchen. The casual eatery will be setting up shop in the Danks Street residence from mid-February, with Mojo set to find a new home closer to the CBD.
“Mojo has a big city vibe that belongs in the CBD, while Luke’s Kitchen is a true neighbourhood eatery,” explains Mangan of the revamp of the space. “We wanted to introduce the flagship in our Waterloo home. It’s unpretentious, it’s comfortable, and it’s a place where guests can swing down for a glass of wine and oysters, or the works. We’re here for everyone.”

Luke’s Kitchen offers a range of different eating options, all incorporating a strong Australian influence. Think along the lines of moreish snacks and share plates, with daily specials aplenty that range from whole fish to hearty roasts.
Leading the kitchen will be Sydney native Mathew Leighton, who has worked across a number of Mangan’s Asia-Pacific restaurants including glass brasserie, Salt tapas & bar, Salt grill & Sky bar, and Chicken Confidential.

“It’s my type of food,” comments Mangan of the fare. “We’re focusing on beautiful products, with a bit of fragrant spice and delivered in a way that is clean and healthy.”
A new look accompanies the new menu. Earthy green and blush pink overflows throughout the Waterloo space, joined by warm pendant lighting, and retro finishes that include a beaded curtain and floral screen. More seating – from a window benchtop, to spacious wooden tables – completes the new fit-out. There is also ample room for events, with the back portion of the restaurant converted into a function-only space.
