Eat In: We tried MoVida's at-home dining, and it's even better than we expected

Welcome to the Frank Camorra version of at-home dining.

Who

Melbourne’s titan of tapas, Frank Camorra, is keeping his MoVida team busy with weekly changing ready-to-eat provision packs.

Why

Two words: chorizo lasagna. Frank’s mum’s Iberian take on Melbourne’s iso dish du jour is reason enough to sign up for one of the weekly changing packs, but eating in Spanish style for breakfast, lunch and dinner certainly seals the deal. All dishes come ready to heat and eat, with simple-to-follow cooking instructions.

Lowdown

Start the day with an ‘olive picker’s breakfast’, a hearty feast of rich, ruby bresaola and MoVida’s own preserved baby sardines to eat with slices of good sourdough, with half a dozen eggs to poach, fry or boil and serve alongside terrific fabada – braised beans with ham.

The menu changes each week, but will feature at least three dishes for lunch and again for dinner that can easily be stretched across a couple of days – if they’re not greedily devoured in one (guilty, your honour).

This week’s lunch includes a couple of fantastically tender, Moorish spiced Sher wagyu skewers that came to life with a couple of minutes in the frying pan, a terrific pastel – a layered pumpkin and cheese slice – and braised chickpeas and silverbeet into which Camorra suggests cracking two eggs to transform into a heartier lunch.

For dinner, there’s sweet-sour (agridulce) Milawa chicken with raisins, almonds and carrots that’s finished in the oven, comfortingly rich pork neck braised in cider and served with fat mushrooms, a roasted cauliflower and grain salad, and, of course, that lasagna that’s a heart-stoppingly glorious tower of oozing chorizo and cheese decadently layered with cold-night comfort in mind.

Lasanga

It’s a supremely generous amount of food that loses little in the reheating, with a wedge of manchego with quince paste on hand to take care of a late-night snack attack.

Something to drink?

For an extra $60, two bottles of Spanish wine from the MoVida cellars will be included in the pack, a white and red chosen to complement the week’s menu.

Price

$150 or $210 with wine, delivery included.

The packs have been a sell-out hit each week since launching last month. This week there’s 70 packs per day available for delivery Thursday, Friday or Saturday between 1pm and 5pm. Get in quick.
