One of Sydney’s favourite restaurants is closing

Mr Liquor

But not before one last hurrah.

Mr Liquor’s Dirty Italian Disco may only have landed last October but the pasta-favouring joint has already firmly established itself as a favourite for many a Sydneysider. U nfortunately for its newfound legion of fans, the pop-up has just called time on its American-style Italian and will be vacating its home of the Tennyson Hotel on April 29.

The acclaimed pop-up collaboration between Merivale and Pinbone’s Mike Eggert and Jemma Whiteman was a success from the start.“We just want people walking away having had great food and an awesome night. Super casual, super crazy,” says Eggert of the duo’s intentions.

The result is a menu that overflows with hearty Italian favourites bruschetta, pasta and wood-roasted meats, with dishes inspired by New York’s famed red sauce joints. Recently the menu grew to include a series of new, slightly more sophisticated options, from beef tongue with porcini and tomato to tuna crudo with radish and beetroot.

But don’t fret diners, beloved favourites gnochetti with braised lamb and rosemary and the porchetta with roasted pineapple remain. There’s also a burgeoning ‘secret’ menu for those that know to ask (which we obviously suggest you do).

And while the restaurant will be shutting its doors on April 29, it will be going out with a bang with plans for a disco-charged warehouse-style party confirmed for that day. From 1-6pm, the event will feature a series of party snacks (including porchetta rolls and chicken wings), accompanied by wine tastings, roving cocktails and DJs. Tickets are $40 and available online now.
