This fancy pie shop in Footscray is now slinging dim sim sausage rolls

Dim sum sauso rolls

And you can even get one delivered.

It’s the famous pie shop in Footscray with pastries good enough to steal – and now you can get them delivered to your door.

Occupying a retro-coloured shopfront on Barkly Street, Pie Thief is run by Bar Josephine owner Aaron Donato with former Supernormal chef, Scott Blomfield.

There’s nothing humble about the selection, which trades on deliciously frivolous flavours like the lasagne pie, made from layers of Bolognese and béchamel with a crisp cheesy lid and a chunky pumpkin and tofu cheddar vegan pie, sealed in Blomfield’s buttery homemade pastry.

If you’re more of a sausage roll person, just wait until you try their new dim sim sausage roll. Taking over from the chicken parma sauso roll, the new pastry sensation is made from a sticky Chinese sausage mince with shiitake mushroom.

Alongside the core range, you can also find a limited edition pie, which trades up weekly.  Think experimental flavours like their nacho pie, filled with chilli con carne, cheese and jalapenos, topped with sour cream and corn chips, or a wild venison pie with a smoked mash potato lid.

As the rule dictates, it’s not a proper pie shop without a cold, frothy milkshake, and thankfully Pie Thief got the memo. Wash down the pastry crumbs with an old-school malted milkshake or try one of the hot or cold Milos, made from heaped spoonfuls, of course.

The shop may only have six stools available, however, the beauty of a good pie is that you can scoff one just about anywhere. You can also get your pastry prize delivered, as long as you live within 7km of Footscray and order at least 4 pies, which shouldn’t be too hard. Delivery is available Monday – Friday, at a cost of $5.
