A pizza giant launches its first cocktail bar

Maybe Frank

Maybe Sammy will land in the Sydney CBD soon.

Sydney may be no stranger to the cocktail bar, thanks to an influx of dens dedicated to the tipple. But who is to say that you can have too many? Evidently a fan of that mantra is Maybe Frank, the pizza chain with outposts in Randwick and Surry Hills. Having already mastered the realm of sourdough-based pizzas, the Italian group has turned their attention to cocktails, and will be launching their first cocktail-dedicated bar shortly.

The new space will be called Maybe Sammy and will land in the Sydney CBD later this year. Just as its pizza outlet was named after crooner Frank Sinatra, the drinking outpost has been dubbed in ode to Sammy Davis Jnr. Legend has it that Sinatra introduced Davis to the scene way back when, just as Maybe Frank is introducing Maybe Sammy now. But what can we expect exactly?

“We’re very excited to introduce Sydney to Maybe Sammy; we’ll have some of the world’s best bartenders creating amazing cocktails in a beautiful space.  It’s a project we are very passionate about and have been working on for a while now so we can’t wait to see it come to life,” says co-owner Vince Lombardo.

Maybe Sammy will sit in Harrington Street, right by Rosetta Restaurant in the heart of the CBD. The bar will be run by Vince Lombardo and Stefano Catino (of Maybe Frank) in collaboration with the restaurant’s creative director Andrea Gualdi. Maybe Sammy is not a restaurant nor is it an Italian venue, but rather a drinks-focused space inspired by 1950s Hollywood. There may be a few bar snacks to compliment the tipple but that’s about it in terms of fare.

The group announced the news to its fans recently via Maybe Frank’s Instagram.

“You may have heard whispers so we wanted to confirm it – Maybe Sammy will be launching later this year in Sydney’s CBD. Maybe Sammy will be our ‘swing’ on a classic hotel cocktail bar, minus the hotel. Inspired by 1950s Hollywood glamour, serving exceptional cocktails from some of the best bartenders in the world, we can’t wait to share it with you! And just so you know… It was always Frank who introduced Sammy…. @maybe_sammy_sydney.”
