With lobster rolls and cheese boards galore.
Walsh Bay may be considered Sydney’s home of the arts, but it looks like the food set is next on the agenda. Joining the neighbourhood’s current eating offerings is a new 100-seat venue named Seventeen.
Owned by neighbouring restaurant El Phoenician, the new offering sits overlooking the seventeen moorings floating on the finger wharfs of the district. It’s set to be an eatery for all hours, functioning as cafe by day, restaurant by night, and deli in between.

It’s an Australian affair when it comes to the food on offer – a contemporary menu has been designed by chef Clint Jaeger which showcases local produce even when it comes to the wine. Breakfast could see you tucking into an acai coco bowl with almond meal and honey salted cashews, or an indulgent plate of ricotta hotcakes topped with Callebaut chocolate and honeycomb butter. For lunch and dinner things turn coastal, the menu featuring the likes of fresh Yamba prawns chilled over flaked ice and a slow-poached lobster roll. Of course there’s a plethora of theatre-friendly snacks also on hand, from a charcuterie board to a cheese plate complete with summer fruits and apple toasted walnut bread.
There’s an impressive takeaway menu on hand for the Walsh Bay residents and worker bees in the district. There’s everything from breakfast to sandwiches on the menu but it’s The Deli by Seventeen that deserves most of your attention, offering up a hand-picked selection of Australian charcuterie and cheese to take home. It’s also an offering that’s one to watch for the venue – with a breakfast in bed service promised from February next year.
