Ottolenghi has just announced a new restaurant

Ottolenghi

And it’s a totally new concept.

Israeli chef Yotam Ottolenghi already has quite the empire on his hands. A slew of books and restaurants in London is no doubt keeping the revered cook very busy. But not too busy to welcome a new addition to his burgeoning brood it seems, with Ottolenghi confirming a new restaurant will be landing shortly. This new addition, to be called Rovi, will be welcomed to London’s Fitzrovia from June.

But Rovi will be a departure from Ottolenghi’s existing restaurant empire. This will be the third brand for the chef, who already runs a chain of cafe-restaurants called Ottolenghi and the formal Nopi in London’s Soho. Instead Rovi will be a largely vegetarian venue, that will also host an interest in fermentation and cooking over fire.

Ottolenghi and his business partner Sami Tamimi will lead the restaurant as executive chefs. Neil Campbell has been named as head chef, and Calvin Von Niebel will remain on board as the existing development chef of the Ottolenghi group.

Ottolenghi promised Eater his new food brand would offer plenty of “feeling and character” as well as a “fresh focus”. A first glimpse at the menu reveals dishes such as hand dived scallops with cucumber kombucha, braised smoked carrots with puffed black barley and pickled herbs, kohlrabi ravioli with peas, broad beans and yuzu kosho and slow roasted cauliflower with crispy chickpeas, tahini and fermented chilli salsa. A lengthy natural wine list will accompany, with cocktails based around seasonal spices.

Rovi will open initially for lunch and dinner, with breakfast expected from July. A small deli has also been promised to accompany the venue.
