After just seven months in business Melbourne restaurant BKK has closed its doors. It’s a move that owners Commune Group attribute to the space being rather a destination dining spot, with too much competition nearby. But the experienced hospitality group – who also own Tokyo Tina, the Hannoi Hannah chain and formerly Saigon Sally – have already risen from the ashes with new group venue Alter Dining. The new addition to the Windsor dining scene is a casual fine diner that serves modern Australian fare. It’s not the first foray away from Asian cuisine for the group, but the venue (like it’s name suggests) is certainly an altered take on the prior Commune Group venues that have resided there prior. With a new theme comes new interiors, with a bar sitting front and centre, surrounded by walls awash in monochrome illustrations. Despite its new food direction, the restaurant will remain led by Saigon Sally’s head chef Sean Judd, who previously worked at Melbourne heavyweights Nahm, Longrain and Chin Chin.
