Roast duck rules the roost at this new 500-seater Cantonese restaurant perched on level seven of Westfield Pitt Street Mall. Do as the name suggests and put in an order for their roast duck – served either Peking or Cantonese-style – or spread your wings and try one of the regional specialties from aromatic dong po pork served with bouncy lotus buns or the slow-cooked san pei chicken simmered in a clay pot. Head chef Kago Fong has put together a comprehensive Cantonese menu based around provincial Chinese dishes. Offerings range from dim sum to silky noodles, sizzling stir-fries and fresh seafood, from mud crab to steamed whole fish. Three special banquet menus will also be available.

Bar Manager, Luke Nicola, has put together a Chinese-inspired cocktail menu which revolves around Asian spices, fruits and tea. Signature tipples will include the Guns ‘n’ Roses, made from Gunpowder rum with five spice vermouth and black rose tea, while a Spice Trade Punch will channel classic duck flavours with its aromatic mix of anise cognac, Campari, yuzu, citrus and pineapple. The wine list, created by sommelier Simon Howland, will feature 28 wines by the glass and 100 by the bottle.

Moving beyond the shopping centre’s daytime crowds, a 9-metre onsite bar will serve Chinese-inspired cocktails and small sharing plates until midnight. Pull up a stool and start snacking, with finger-friendly bites like kung pao chicken wings and Peking duck pancakes.

Inspired by Shanghai in the 1930s, the restaurant will boast imperial-style interiors which pair blue and gold custom-printed wallpaper with emerald green tabletops and white marble mosaic tiles. In a nod to ancient Chinese dynasties, the terrace will house 250 handmade iron lanterns, which will be strung up in rows to create a glowing canopy.
