The Airbnb of dinner parties officially launches in Brisbane

Gathar

Gathar is the platform connecting professional chefs with home entertainers.

If you’ve longed to host a luxurious dinner party but regularly face cooking crises and dessert disasters, we’ve found the solution. Gathar is the platform connecting those who love to cook with those who love to entertain, revolutionising the way we come together with friends and family over food.

Picture this; a passionate cook arrives at your doorstep with all the ingredients, cooks up a storm and cleans up afterwards. Your only hardship is deciding which bottle of wine to crack open.

Brought to you by passionate Cairns residents Jodie Mlikota and Nicky Jurd, the business was founded in 2018 and launched after six months of testing. Their success in Cairns has enabled them to expand across Australia, starting in Brisbane.

Gathar team

The platform was founded on a frustration that many of us share, an inability to connect with any of your guests when hosting a dinner party. Most spend the night preparing, cooking, serving and cleaning – leaving little to no time to engage with their guests. Founder Jodie loved having friends over for dinner but found herself hating the work that came with it, sparking the idea for Gathar. Whether it’s a Sunday brunch, evening dinner party or an afternoon grazing table, the platform is said to work for almost every occasion.

The team are currently on the hunt for chefs and cooks in Far North and South East Queensland to join the marketplace as a Gather Culinarian. There are now 14 Brisbane cooks on board, each contributing 2-3 menus at various price points. Future hosts can then browse the website and pick the most suitable option for their occasion. Menus range in price from $55 to $140pp for a minimum of six guests. Current cuisines range from the familiar to the exotic, including Italian, Mexican, Modern Australian, Jamaican and Persian.

Gathar

If you’re already excited to try Gathar for yourself, the company has plans to scale nationally in 2019. There’s also talk of heading to the Sunshine Coast, Byron Bay, Sydney and Melbourne before they take the rest of the world by storm.
