Start your engines – and your espresso machine.

Some say kitchen appliances are made for function and practicality, but if your toaster isn’t offering you the status symbol you require, it’s time for an upgrade.

Porsche and Smeg have teamed up for a limited-edition collection inspired by the historic 917 KH race car, which secured Porsche’s first victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1970.

Now, the car is moving from the race tracks into the kitchens of Australians, where the iconic red livery is reimagined into fridges and coffee machines.

The series includes a kettle, toaster, coffee machine, and fridge, all available in the classic Porsche colours: Carrara White Metallic and Shade Green Metallic, with the coffee machine and fridge also offered in electric Salzburg Red.

Each appliance wears Porsche’s signature stripes and branding, though the fridge and coffee machine take pole position – featuring custom designs, a numbered metal plate, and the iconic number 23 lollipop printed on the body. Only 1,970 units of each exist, in case you forgot the winning year of Le Mans. (You will never forget the winning year at Le Mans).

While branding and design is high on the priority list, Smeg has delivered its usual high-quality in this launch.

Nifty features include a built-in coffee grinder in the coffee machine while the kettle offers a ‘soft opening’ and removable stainless steel limescale filter.

The blender includes a handy auto-clean function, and the lid’s built-in measuring cup allows for ingredients to be safely added during blending.

While there’s only so much you can do with a toaster, Porsche has added matte black accents and a custom-numbered control knob in addition to the standard toasting functions.

The Porsche X Smeg collection is available from October 15th exclusively through Smeg flagship stores and authorised dealers, Porsche Design Shops and selected Porsche Centres, both brands’ official online platforms as well as select design and concept stores.

Go hard or go home, we say.
