Crack out the gin: Today’s the day you’ll break your New Year's resolutions, research shows

Iced doughnuts.

And it’ll happen at precisely 7:26pm tonight.

It’s been a tough start to the year for those who have sworn off alcohol, meat, fat, sugar and carbs, however in good news, that all ends today.

New research from Deliveroo has revealed that this is the weekend when you’ll finally give in to your cravings, abandoning weeks of hard work in favour of a bowl of chocolate frosting (or similar).

To determine this, Deliveroo analysed last year’s order data to pinpoint the exact moment that willpower caves and the demand for fat, sugar and booze rises, with data suggesting that this will occur on the third Saturday after New Year’s at approximately 7:26pm.

While the third Saturday marks the biggest day for boozing, its actually tomorrow (or Sunday, January, 19) that will see a return to bingeing. Sadly, there’s no point trying to stop it now, the data doesn’t lie. You can, however, make sure you’re adequately stocked up, so you don’t have to resort to that can of condensed milk in the back of the cupboard.

According to Deliveroo data, Canberrans were revealed to have the least willpower when it comes to New Year’s indulgence, while Sydneysiders showed the greatest resolve.
