And no, it's not Tim Tams.
Aussies living overseas are probably accustomed to scoring a care package from home every once in a while. Little tastes of Oz to keep the homesickness at bay with everything from jars of Vegemite, to boxes of Weet-Bix, Tim Tams, Milo, and heaps more.
But according to the handlers of the precious packages, shipping company Pack & Send, the snack that folks are most curious to have shipped across our seas to the Aussies living abroad is, frankly, a bit of a shocker.
The team’s research found that the mighty Tim Tam has been knocked off the top of the charts by the humble (and surprising) Chiko Roll.
The study’s metrics reveal that Chiko Roll is Australia’s favourite snack, claiming the top spot with a ‘popularity’ score of 100. This iconic on-the-go savoury pastry treat filled with cabbage, barley and beef and deep-fried is being searched by Aussies over 9,900 times a month on average, contributing to its perfect score.

It might seem odd that a shipping company is so invested in this misty-eyed metric but as Pack & Send country manager Nicholas Woodward points out, “At Pack & Send, we oversee thousands of Australian care packages shipped overseas monthly, particularly during peak seasonal periods like national days, Christmas or Thanksgiving containing local goods like Tim Tams, Anzac biscuits and Cherry Ripes. There’s nothing like a taste of home, and our service connects people globally.”
