IKEA's turkey-sized Swedish meatball is back for Christmas

A Christmas table with giant balls from IKEA.

No assembly required.

For the second year in a row, IKEA has unwrapped their turkey-sized meatball just in time for Christmas – and it’s brought a vegan sidekick.

The brown orb weighs in at 4.5 kilograms and will be given out to just 20 winners in the UK via an Instagram competition. 20 more winners will score a “cabbage-sized plantball” – a plant-based alternative that is distinct, it appears, from the homewares icon’s veggie balls.

The supersized meatball weighs in at 6kg, while the brassica-scale ball is a relatively petite 3kg.

When the Swedish furniture company first announced the mammoth meatball in 2023, many questioned whether it was a festive prank or the real deal, and you’d better believe we ran to the comments section.

“How many days in the oven?” asked one curious commenter.

“We’re gonna need a bigger gravy boat.” added another.

Heinz UK hit below the belt with the top comment on TikTok, “Need a turkey sized ketchup to make it less dry.”
