You know you want to.
McDonald’s Australia has confirmed that, at long last, the homicidal Grimace Shake and Grimace Meal will be landing in Australia so let’s paint the town purple.
Early last year, McDonald’s released a limited edition Grimace Shake in the US to celebrate the brand’s iconic violet blobs’ birthday. Bizarrely, the Shake gained virality on TikTok through a series of dark humour-type skits involving violent Grimace attacks. Why, TikTok? Why?

The creator responsible for the Grimace Shake trend, Fraz (@thefrazmaz) originally posted a short clip of himself excitedly tasting the purple shake, and quickly ‘dying’. Apparently, that’s all it takes to get the ball rolling, with thousands of creators getting on board and the original video racking up over 10 million views.
Fraz has since broken his silence explaining the meme, saying that it really shouldn’t be thought on too deeply. The purpose was just to point out that a purple berry shake probably isn’t going to be good for you, and that he has fallen victim to Grimace’s unsubstantiated bloodlust. Even McDonald’s has gotten in on the joke, posting on their Twitter page “meee pretending I don’t see the Grimace Shake trendd”

Now that we’ve got that out of the way, what exactly is the Grimace Shake? And how can you get your hands on one?
The Grimace Shake marked the 52nd anniversary of the unofficial Pride icon’s introduction to the McDonald’s family and has been introduced to the US market for a limited run.
Now it’s our turn to take a stab at the Grimace Shake. Available from Friday, October 4 for a limited time only, the Grimace Shake can be ordered separately or as part of a medium or large Grimace Meal with the choice of a Big Mac or chicken nuggets and chips.

How to make the Grimace Shake
If you prefer to make your own Macca’s order, the short list of ingredients certainly means it can be recreated at home with a few freezer staples.
The purple thickshake is essentially just vanilla soft serve, frozen blueberries, strawberry jam and a dash of milk. Finish that bad boy off with a swirl of whipped cream and you’ve got yourself a potentially killer milkshake. Proceed with caution.
Ingredients
- 300ml milk
- 600g vanilla ice cream
- 1/2 cup frozen blueberries
- 4 tablespoons strawberry jam
- Whipped cream, to serve
Method
- Let vanilla ice cream soften slightly before adding to blender.
- Add milk, ice cream, blueberries and jam to a blender and mix on high until smooth.
- Transfer milkshake into a tall glass and top with a swirl of whipped cream
