At last, this US company has created 'soup you can suck on' lozenges

Honestly, we'd rather stay sick.

Just when you thought the world of soup couldn’t get any more progressive, Progresso has thrown its hat into the ring with a Wonka-esque creation: soup-flavoured lozenges. “The Soup You Can Suck,” this latest snack is an oddly nostalgic nod to the comforting warmth of a bowl of soup… except, you know, in hard candy form.

The Soup Drops are inspired by creator Progresso’s classic Chicken Noodle Soup, with hints of savoury broth, chicken, vegetables, soft egg noodles, and parsley.

The lolly itself is a hard, unassuming little oval that claims to deliver the essence of a warming bowl of soup. It’s unclear if they meant “essence” as in “taste” or “spiritual presence,” but either way, it’s happening.

Progresso’s marketing team, undeterred by potential backlash or the very real risk of upending the entire candy industry, touts this as the ideal treat for those moments when you’re craving something hearty, but don’t have time to sit down with a ladle. Forget chewing; now you can suck your soup to your heart’s content.

But what kind of culinary genius – or dare we say, madness – are we dealing with here? According to Progresso, this is “the future of snacking” for the adventurous palate.

“When you’re sick, nothing is truly more reassuring than Chicken Noodle Soup,” MC Comings, VP, of Progresso at General Mills, explained in a press release.

We took the beloved flavours of our Progresso Chicken Noodle Soup and packed them into a fun, savoury candy Soup Drop for a totally new way to enjoy the taste you love whenever and wherever you want.” Because honestly, who isn’t tired of sweet, fruity lollies?

The individually wrapped Soup Drops come crammed into a signature soup can and can be purchased online here.
