Thanks, but we’re good.
We thought the humble sushi roll was safe, but a new trend across the Atlantic has proved us wrong.
Suka Sushi in New York is a Japanese restaurant offering a new way to eat your favourite sushi roll, and it’s going viral.
Just like the original push-pop lolly, the sushi comes in a sturdy cardboard cylinder with 10 pre-cut, extra-large roll pieces. A slim, removable soy sauce tube is attached to the side, doubling as the push handle.

The patent-pending packaging includes five printed steps showing how to remove the lids, pour the soy sauce, and use the tube to push each piece up for eating directly from it.
The push–pop design is intended to make sushi snacking even more convenient, but is it really worth it? Do we really need it?
The internet says ‘yes’ – and judging by the queues at Suka Sushi, so do the customers.

Having only recently opened in late 2025, the sushi bar is already experiencing wait-times of over an hour with only one roll available per person.
There are just seven flavours on the menu ranging from the classic California filled with kani, avocado, cucumber with an exterior of masago to a vibrant Shrimp Mango roll of cream cheese, prawn, mango and cucumber rolled in masago.
The extra large size of the rolls costs between $15 to $17 USD each (which is the equivalent to approximately $21 and $24 AUD).
With the New York venue leading the push-pop sushi trend, it may only be a matter of time before it reaches Australian shores.
