Holy moly! Cult favourite Tony's Chocolonely bars hit supermarket shelves

Tony's Chocolonely

Snacking you can feel good about.

Heralded as the ‘world’s best chocolate’, Tony’s Chocolonely bars have at last hit the shelves at Woolworths and Coles across the country. The first certifiably anti-slavery chocolate in the world, Tony’s Chocolonely bars were previously only available in more boutique stores (including Harris Farm and some IGAs) but now the cult favourite is more accessible than ever.

The ethical chocolate offering at Coles is in four different flavours (milk chocolate, dark chocolate pretzel toffee, almond sea salt, and caramel sea salt) at 200 stores in 180g blocks for $8 and smaller 47g bars that retail for $3.50.

Woolworths are only stocking the larger 180g bars but they’ve got the superior selection, with seven variations on the shelves. Along with the selection at Coles, Woolworths shoppers can enjoy white raspberry popping candy chocolate, honey almond nougat, and hazelnut flavours for $8.25.

While the price tag might seem on the steep end, it’s worth keeping in mind that the Netherlands-based chocolate company has gone to great lengths to ensure their products are as ethical as possible, in an industry that is notorious for human rights violations. The chocolate bar was first launched 13 years ago in the Netherlands, by investigative journalist Teun Van der Keuken. Teun – also known as Tony – discovered that illegal child labour and modern slavery are still commonplace in cocoa farms in West Africa.

From this investigation, he decided to create an ethical chocolate brand. Now that’s guilt-free snacking.
